Airport Environmental impacts
THE AIRPORT AND THE ENVIRONMENT.
The
influence that aircraft noise has on the people in the surrounding area is the
aspect of the airport's environmental footprint that, in my view, causes
airport management the most cause for worry. There is a sort of environmental
pollution known as noise pollution, which is brought on by the presence of
noise that is either loud or constant (Airport Noise
Compatibility Planning Information | Federal Aviation Administration, 2021). A
disturbed night's sleep, elevated levels of stress and anxiety, and even an
increased risk of cardiovascular disease are just some of the adverse health
impacts that may be caused by aircraft noise. This may be harmful to the health
of people and other animals, in addition to being harmful to the environment.
Noise pollution may originate from many sources, including airplanes, vehicles
on the road, construction work, and industrial processes and operations. For example,
it may also be brought on by elements of nature, such as air and water.
Many
different approaches may be taken to reduce noise pollution's adverse effects.
One tactic may be to lessen the influence of the noise's origin (Environmental
Impacts of Airport Operations, Maintenance, and Expansion, n.d.). This goal may
be accomplished by reducing the number of aircraft movements or by switching to
more quiet aircraft. The use of sound-proofing materials is another approach
that may be used to minimize the amount of noise that is transferred from the
source. Installing sound-proofing barriers around the airport's perimeter or
using sound-absorbing materials on the runway are both viable options for
accomplishing this goal. Last but not least, one strategy for lowering noise
pollution is to redirect the flight routes of airplanes. This goal may be
accomplished by rerouting flights away from densely populated regions or
employing aircraft with lower noise levels.
